Chateau de la Roque (ref. 0279) - Gite rental Perigord 16 sleeps

If there us “The” Dordogne property, then this is it – one of the great landmarks that every visitor to La Roque-Gageac admires. From every window and terrace there are fabulous views down the winding banks of the Dordogne. There is also a large garden behind the château.

The extraordinary location of this Renaissance style château perched high above the river makes it quite unique - it is a famous landmark along the Dordogne River in the Périgord Noir and offers genuinely privileged accommodation.

In the heart of Perigord Noir, in the Dordogne valley, the Castle of La Roque overlooks one of the most beautiful villages of France, La Roque Gageac. Nestled in a loop of the Dordogne river at the foot the high cliffs, it benefits from full sun all day and has an almost Mediterranean climate. The Castle offers an exceptional viewpoint over this medieval village and the Dordogne river, and you will appreciate the charm of this area full of history.

The castle is a family residence, and combines modern comfort with the charm of antique furniture making it a wonderful place to stay. After you step through the gateway a private alley will lead you to the main courtyard of the castle where you will enjoy a magnificiant panorama over the Dordogne river.
The swimming pool is located on one of the terraces of the castle, and offers a great exposition to fully enjoy the long summer days of this area.

To say this beautiful castle is spectacular is an understatement!! Our hosts went to great lengths to make sure our stay was incredible, making it the most memorable travel experience ever!! Alix and Simone helped me plan our group itinerary, offering suggestions of what to do during the day and making reservations for us at night for activities and restaurants. We cooked dinner in the well appointed kitchen and enjoyed dinner on the terrace overlooking the gorgeous river, watching the hot air balloons rise over the river- what a unique and memorable experience!! The caretaker of the property Juliana is FANTASTIC and cooked us the most exquisite French meal, she is a fabulous resource, and if you are not into cooking yourself, but want to experience dinner at the castle- I highly recommend her talents!! The town/ paths within walking distance are so charming- you feel you are in a French fairy tale- and for one week- we were!!! We would love to return, thank you to our hosts!!!!
We spent a month at the Chateau to celebrate my 70th birthday with family and friends. The Chateau Malartrie is rustic, charming, well appointed, and comfortable. The location is stunning overlooking the Dordogne River and Valley. It is close to historic villages, cave art, cave dwellings, and many activities to keep my guests involved and entertained. We especially loved soaking up the sunshine by the Chateau pool, canoeing on the Dordogne River, taking hot air balloon rides, exploring the market days at Sarlat, and shopping and eating at local La Roque Gageac restaurants.

Being from the United States, the booking and confirmation were easy and En Toutes Saisons staff were friendly, always available, and promptly answered questions. Also, we can’t complement the owners, Alix & Pierre-Augustin too much. They were so gracious, hospitable, accommodating, and helpful. It was because of them that made the overall vacation and my birthday a once-in-a-lifetime, magical experience. A dream comes true.
An incredibly beautiful and historic chateau in equally gorgeous surroundings with plenty to do on site or a short walk away. Great for a large multigenerational family like ours
Wow, it is hard to describe how special it is to stay at La Roque! You are right on the river in a pristine 12th century chateau. There were 15 of us for a work retreat and we enjoyed the large dining table, the kitchen snd terraces, and the spectacular pool. We were close to wine country, an underground river, 17,000 year old cave paintings and many castles and famous chateau. In addition to these visits, we canoed down the Dordogne, enjoyed a hot air balloon ride, visited a number of villages and took a 45 kilometer e-bike tour. It was AMAZING! Thank you to the owners and staff for an unforgettable stay!
Très professionnel, réactif et arrangent sur des nombreuses questions. Lieux splendide, un rêve, à faire absolument
magnifique endroit pour une réunion de famille ou un moment chaleureux hors du temps dans un cadre et une région exceptionnels
